Introduction of the city


Located in the south of Luxembourg in the picturesque Chiers valley, Differdange has 4 towns including Lasauvage, Oberkorn, Differdange-Fousbann and Niederkorn, which represent more than 26,500 inhabitants. It thus ranks as the third most populated city in Luxembourg.

Schools in Differdange 


Differdange has five schools located throughout the various towns. The commune has several nurseries within its territory. 


Shopping in Differdange 


Located in Differdange, the Opkorn shopping center with its various retail stores and restaurants is a must for those who love shopping, or simply need to do their everyday shopping. All kinds of small shops are available (grocery store, bakery, etc.). 


Nature 


Nature is prominant in Differdange, which has no less than four parks: Edmond Dune, Chiers, Gerlach and Um Blerg, all unique but each with its own charm. They are truly peaceful havens where residents or those passing through can relax and unwind.     


Sports in Differdange 


The commune is always investing in the construction of new sports facilities such as the creation of a tennis, badminton and squash complex.   Since 2014, the city of Oberkorn has been home to both an aquatic center and a wellness center. Near the city center, soccer federation members have a new stadium with beautiful facilities. 


Industry 


The commune has long been an industrial one, focused particularly towards the iron and steel industries. It is now diversifying into other activities such as recreation and services.   Among the vestiges of the industrial saga, one can still see Differdange ironworks that date back to the 19th century.  


History and Sciences


The commune also prides itself on history and science with museum spaces like the Fond-de-Gras Museum, the Eugène Pesch Museum and the Luxembourg Science Center. Located in Lasauvage, the museum area in the old Saintignon castle is dedicated to the history of the town and to a group of young Luxembourgers who hid themselves in a mine to avoid having to wear the Wehrmacht uniform during the Second World War.  Opened in 2005, the Eugène Pesch museum contains a collection of ore, fossils and miners' tools. 


The Luxembourg Science Center is an essential stop for science enthusiasts who can discover fun experiences including 60 experiment stations, entertainment and participation workshops. 


Fair trade 


Mindful of fair trade and interpersonal cooperation, the commune is part of the Fairtrade network that promotes fair trade through various initiatives.  


Hi tech 


Differdange is focused on new technology and has just released its new app for residents to facilitate life within the city. 


Ecology 


The commune is part of the Climate Pact program, which is inspired by the European Energy Award. It is a system for quality management and certification within the energy policy and climate protection sectors which assesses and rewards communal involvement.
