Expat Guide – Energy Provider in Luxembourg: Choosing your Electricity Provider

August 1, 2017

Are you moving to Luxembourg soon? You will need an electricity provider. Here are a few tips and tricks to guide you in your search.

As for gas supply, the resident who preceded you must terminate their contract before their departure. You will therefore be able to choose your own electricity provider.

If you want to change providers later, the law in Luxembourg allows you to do so at no cost, provided that you respect your notice period, pay your remaining bills and, especially, that your contract is not fixed term. In such a case, although you can cancel your contract, the electricity provider is entitled to claim severance benefits.

Moving to a new country is not always easy, especially if you do not know the service companies. To help you, the ILR, the Luxembourg Institute for Regulation, keeps up-to-date a comparator of electricity offers and providers.
In addition, it is at your disposal to answer any questions you might have in case of a problem with a provider. Don’t hesitate to take advantage of this free service in case of need.
